Music

The SCS music program has varied offerings for students wishing to participate in the musical arts.
Grade 7-12 Band & Choir, Chamber Choir, Worship Band, & Musical Theatre.
Band Director: James Fast has been a music instructor in the SCS Music Program since 2008. Mr. Fast has spent 30 years making music as a performer, vocal instructor and conductor. He is an SCS graduate and began his music studies in the early 1980’s at the Steinbach Bible College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Church Music degree. He then studied at the University of Manitoba, earning Bachelor degrees in both Music and Education. After a year of studies at the University of Toronto Opera School, he spent three years performing as a tenor soloist across Canada and the United States. In 1992, he added vocal instruction and choral conducting to his musical pursuits.
Choral Director: Michael Summerville-Dueck joined the SCS Music Program in fall of 2023.

Musicals

The SCS choral program begins in Kindergarten with basic vocal awareness, and develops into a full-fledged singing experience from Grade 5 through Grade 12.

Participation in an award winning Chamber Choir is also available to Grade 9-12 students who audition successfully.
SCS choir and band ensembles participate in various local music festivals, as well as the SCS Christmas and Spring Concerts.
The band program involves students from Grades 7 through 12.  A persistent emphasis on technique and strong playing is cultivated.
Every other year, SCS stages a major musical production which is open to all Grade 9-12 students.
Worship Band Director: Dylan Zacharias has been the Worship Band Director since 2021. Mr. Zacharias has been apart of worship leading at his church for 12 years. He also has over 14 years of sound training and experience; working with worship bands, dramas, musicals and more. Mr. Zacharias has a passion for growing the next generation of worship band members and leaders.  

Worship Band

For students interested in a worship leadership experience, there is a Praise & Worship Team which rehearses twice a week in preparation for monthly worship chapels. This is an auditioned group.
